  • Girls Water Polo Update Worthington 9/8-9/9 - One thing I forgot to mention is that you need to bring money for food for the Worthington Tournament. The buffet rest. we eat at is like $15ish, and that is dinner Sat., but lunch, and snacks at the pool for both Sat and Sun you will need extra money. If you have questions on this, let me know. Looking out. We play Sept. 21-22 in the Milford Tournament. This is again a Varsity Tournament, so not everyone will play, but I encourage everyone to dress and sit on the bench as min. to learn more about the game, and to be with the team. • Girls Water Polo Starts - Some of the seniors got together and planned an additional week of practice for you all. "Senior Camp" The first week in August, 6-10 from 5-7 PM Seniors will be leading you in conditioning and training drills, etc. This is for new and old players. I highly encourage everyone to make every possible effort to be there. I will be there to supervise only. Everything done is senior lead. This is a great week to get together as a team and get back into the swing of things, and for new players to meet old players, and to pick up on some new skills. Bring everyting from dryland/weight lifting clothes, to gym shoes, to swim suits, etc. On Friday after Senior Camp, there will be a pool party, I am sure the seniors will inform you more of what to bring. If you have any questions, let me know, or Amanda Weber, Monica LaPlant, or Joanna Pollard It is that time again to start thinking about Water Polo schedules. I passed out a game schedule at our meeting at the end of the school year, but attached it again for your convience. Note Ohio Cup is listed at 7-9 of Sept., but will only be two days. I believe Sat., and Sun., but they originally told me Fri/Sat, so I am checking on those dates. As always the game schedule is subject to change, but pencil all this in now. Also, if you do not practice before a game/tourney, you will not start, so don't schedule doctor appts., etc the day before games. Speaking of doctor appts. Make sure you get all your paperwork taken care of....Emergency Medical Form (E.M.F.), Physical, and I think you have to fill out the OHSAA Authorization Form again. Start thinking about those things so you aren't scrambling to get them done the day before our first practice.....you don't have them.....you don't practice.....which is not good!! On the topic of practices. We start August 13 officially (Seniors, email me about this). We will have dryland first, then be in the water. Right now, I have practice blocked off from 8:15-11 AM, however we may get done at 10:30.....no promises though. ON the first day of practice, we will go over rules/expectations, etc. So we will meet on Aug 13 at 8 AM in lieu of 8:15 AM. Those practices run for two weeks prior to school. I believe that Aug 27 is the first day of school for 9th graders. Ergo, we will start practices M-F from 2:30-6 PM on Aug 27 until the end of the season. Again, do the best you can do to not schedule dr. appts. on those days. I know it can be a challenge, but that goes along with playing sports. It is so imperative that everyone is there for practices all the time. If you have not already started running, or doing abs/push-ups, etc........start. If you have not been in the water all summer.....get in now, and start training. Even if you only do 1500 yds 3 days a week. That is better than nothing. FYI at 2:30 PM on Wednesday Aug. 22 we have our pictures taken. On a final note, we will probably pick captains the first week or so of practice, so old players, think about who that should be. I mention this because I also want you to start designing your shirts et. al. (pants, hoodies, whatever) This way we can have them sooner in the season than later. You will submit your designs to captains (once they are picked), and hopefully by the first week of school we can have them ordered. This way they should be completed for our Worthington Tourney. Ok, that is a lot of information. If you have questions, call, or email me. Otherwise, I cannot stress enough to be training now so we are actually ready to go.....our season is so short. If you don't get moving now, it will take you half the season to get there.

  • Girls Water Polo Clinic for grades 6-11 - There will be a girls water polo clinic for new players M-Thur. from 3:30-4:30 March 19-22 and Fri, since it is an early release, 2:30-3:30 (assuming the Middle School gets out around 2 that day). It will be open to girls 6th-11th grade. There will be no charge for this clinic, however, I ask that you please email me to RSVP(even if you already did saying you were interested) [jen_schell@yahoo.com] Some of the fall 06 girls team will be helping with the clinic. Again, the clinic will be basic, and fairly informal. We will learn how to tread properly, work on ball handling (passing, catching, etc.), rules, etc. We will hopefully get to some scrimmaging at the end of the week. If we have enough fall 06 players, we will also show them what a game may look like. At this point, I am going to cap the clinic at 20 new participants.......so first come, first serve. Again, if you have already emailed me, I did not put you on the list, so you will need to email me again for my own confirmation. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me. Thanks, Jen SChell Girls PHS Water Polo Coach
